Our objectives

We are the Commonwealth: 53 independent and equal sovereign states, working to help each other and make the world a better place. Our specific objectives are to:

empower young people by giving them a voice in decision-making

conserve the oceans, land and air around us

amplify the voices of small states in global forums

promote credible, peaceful and inclusive elections

remove trade barriers and manage debt to create prosperity

counter violent extremism and its causes

My 2018 Biennial Report on attainments and progress achieved in the preceding two years is being presented with something new: this companion website that tells the stories and introduces the people behind the results. This is entirely fitting in view of the emphasis throughout the period covered by the report on reform and renewal of the Commonwealth Secretariat, and on doing things in new ways in the Commonwealth more generally.
